Serenity Oval · Kammengo, Mpigi District, Uganda
Cricket brings them through the gate. Education changes what happens next.
Free cricket coaching, IT and English classes for young people in Kammengo since 2022, with a special focus on girls.
Who we are
A Ugandan foundation built around one cricket ground
Cricket for Development is based at Serenity Oval in Kammengo, Mpigi District. We started in 2022 with a simple belief: every young person, given the chance, can achieve great things.
We are the sister organisation of Ceylon Lions Cricket Club, which took over Charity Cricket Club in 2018 so that its sponsored players could stay in education. The club has helped many students through school and university, and has developed players who went on to represent Uganda.
Cricket is how we reach them. What keeps them is learning, belonging and the coaches who believe in them. Alongside the game, our players learn English and computer skills in the classroom at the ground, and we work with their families on the things that keep children in school.

What we do
Play, learn, stay in school
Our programmes run side by side, so a child who comes to train also comes to class. Girls come first.

Girl child development
Sport keeps girls in school and away from early marriage and pregnancy. We show them the doors cricket can open.

New programme Coming
A coffee tree today. School fees tomorrow.
Grow a Future gives families around Serenity Oval coffee and cocoa seedlings, with training and follow-up. A steady crop income keeps children in school and in cricket. Visitors and donors fund the seedlings and can plant them alongside the family.

9 October 2022
Launched on Independence Day, with the MCC
The Marylebone Cricket Club's first tour of Uganda came to Serenity Oval for two T20 matches. That day, the Sri Lankan High Commissioner and the MCC captain opened Cricket for Development and its first classroom and IT centre, with around 100 children taking part.
